Cherryland is a district located in between San Leandro and Hayward to the north and south correspondingly. With a population of a little over 14,000 residents, this town is referred to as a designated place for census collection. Because Cherryland is an unincorporated city, it is still governed by Alameda County. The current of the San Lorenzo Creek still flows through the neighborhood’s limits. Meek, often referred to as the “first farmer” of Alameda County, built a Victorian house in 1869 that still remains preserved by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. What is now commonly known as the “Meek Mansion” sits on a 10 acre plot of land on Hampton Street. His beautiful home serves as a reminder of the community’s rich history and its vital role in the development of surrounding regions.
